Personalizing your Bedroom with New Furniture

April 20th, 2009

If you’ve been sleeping in the same room for dozens of years, it might be time for a change. During your spring cleaning, check to see if your mattress is still firm, and if your bed itself is still holding together. If not, spring is a great time to go shopping for a new bedroom set. Be sure to choose options that reflect your personality, and coordinate well with your carpet and drapes. For example, dark woods work well with rich red carpet tones, while creamier furniture looks best in light, airy rooms. When you purchase a new bed or bedroom suite, focus on your own needs. Would you like additional storage space for sheets or pillows? Consider buying a bed with storage drawers underneath, or getting a matching wardrobe. If you’d like to read in bed, think about getting a headboard that can support a small reading lamp. No matter what you choose, be sure to personalize your new bedroom furniture, so that you’ll be able to use it for many years to come.

Choosing New Accent Furniture For Spring

April 19th, 2009

When springtime rolls around, there’s nothing quite as exciting as buying a new piece of accent furniture. Accent furniture is an excellent choice because it’s usually small enough to transport in your car, meaning that you could buy it, bring it home, and start displaying it right away. Consider a small table for your entryway, where you could display Easter eggs or daffodils to celebrate the joys of the season. If you’re feeling artistic, you could even decoupage an older table, adding some bright spring colors to freshen up your house. Another great way to choose new accent furniture is to get the kids involved. If they have a special trophy that they’d like to display, or a new sculpture from art class, take them shopping to find the perfect shelf. Then, once you get home, you could put the shelf up as a family project, teaching them basic carpentry skills while having fun as a group. By choosing a new accent table or shelf, you’ll bring a new and exciting element to your decorative scheme.

Finding New Indoor Furniture

April 18th, 2009

Sometimes, particularly in the middle of a recession, a new set of indoor furniture can be a great way to make a temporary dwelling feel more like a permanent home. If you can’t afford to move to a larger house, consider making your current place feel more like a home by purchasing a new sofa, dining room table, or set of shelves. By adding this new furniture, you’ll give your entire room a breath of fresh air, making it feel alive and new, just in time for spring. Best of all, choosing your new furniture can be a great family memory. When each family member is able to weigh in on the decision, everyone will feel invested in the new look of the home. This will make the new sofa or table feel even more special, since good memories will surround it from the day that you select it together. By choosing to enhance your house with new indoor furniture during the recession, you’ll create an exciting new atmosphere, while saving money during these tough economic times.

I Needed Color and I Got It!

March 29th, 2009

It was Spring Break but we didn’t get a break. We bought our house with white walls and after three months living in it I felt we had bought a hospital. Choosing the right color was an easy task, though. I chose a color scheme that was modern but classy. I also wanted something that looked different. I chose a dark grayish brown paint for three sides of the living room and the fourth side I chose a smokey blue color. As soon as my mother saw it, she hated it. But she lives it out in the country in a ranch style home. I think I got my style from my grandmother who wasn’t afraid of unique pieces or colors. I decided to paint the kitchen the same smokey blue color and bought green and lime green accents such as the placemats and other décor. Luckily the tile in the kitchen went perfect with the new colors and we are going to remove the carpet and replace it with either a wooden floor or cork floor. I was so excited to start painting that I had forgotten how tiring it could get. But the work paid off and now I have to living room and kitchen that I always wanted! As for the floor, I think we are going to have to hire someone!
